My Online Dating Experience: A Man's Perspective

July 7th, 2021

I’ve been single for a few years now and it’s starting to get frustrating. I never know what to say, how to make small talk, or which restaurant is good for first dates. It doesn’t help that my friends don’t seem to understand why I’m still single at 30. They always ask if I have a boyfriend, as if it would be so shocking if I didn’t! And when I do go on dates with others, the experience is always awkward and slightly uncomfortable. It seems like the men I meet online are looking for someone who will cater to their every need and provide them with answers and services they can only find through an app. But dating isn’t something that scares me, as much as it frustrates me. And after talking to some of my friends about their experiences, I realized there were things that could help me meet people more comfortably. So here’s my take on online dating:

Be yourself

There’s nothing worse than meeting someone online and then realizing that you have nothing in common. When you meet someone, you want to see if you have a connection with them, whether it’s over a common interest or something else. Online dating should be a reflection of who you are in real life. You also want to show your personality in case there is a connection with the other person. If you’re shy, try not to get too much personal information out of the other person. Give them answers and information that you think they would be interested in. You don’t want to come off as boring or too shy to talk to others.

Don’t be too picky

First dates are nerve-wracking. You want to be picky so that the person doesn’t feel pressured to meet all of your expectations. But being picky can make you come off as too high maintenance. You want to be picky about who you date, but you don’t want to be too picky that you never date someone. And if you’re picky about the type of person you want to date, chances are you’ll never meet anyone. KEEP in mind that online dating is not dating. It’s more like meeting a friend of a friend. The person you’re meeting is likely not who they really are. They might be very shy and not the confident individual they pretend to be. So if you’re picky, chances are you’ll just be disappointed.

Be proactive

When you start getting into the online dating scene, you might be a little hesitant to “put yourself out there”. But when you don’t do it, no one will ever know you’re out there. Have you ever seen the episode of Seinfeld where George dates the same woman over and over again? And the woman is always disappointed because she expected to meet a man who had a huge personality. The best way to meet people online is to put yourself out there. Make an online profile, add pictures, and write a little bit about yourself. You don’t need to include everything, but sharing a little bit about yourself can help you meet people who are looking to meet someone. If you’re hesitant about putting yourself out there, try using a dating app. You can use an app to find people you’re interested in. And once you find someone you want to meet, you can use the app to set up a date. This is a better way to put yourself out there.

Come up with a solid conversation starter

Maybe you’re too shy to initiate a conversation with someone. Or maybe you’re simply bad at making small talk. Whatever the case may be, you need to come up with a solid conversation starter so that people can start conversations with you. Good conversation starters will help you find more dates and make more friends. Here are a few conversation starters that you can use to help you meet people online: - Ask for their opinion on something you’re passionate about. If you’re into sports, ask them about their team’s performance and how they’re feeling about the game. - Ask them what they like to do in their free time. You can then share something that you’re passionate about and people will immediately have something to talk to you about. - Ask them what they think of the app they’re using. Ask them how they found the app, what they like about it, and what they don’t like about it.

Ask for a second date

In this day and age, we are too quick to judge people online. You might meet someone online who seems to be perfect, but turns out to be a huge disappointment. There’s no point in wasting your time on someone who ruins your experience or makes you uncomfortable. If someone is not sparking any interest with you, let them know that there are other people who might be more interested in meeting them. If someone asks for a second date, you should assume that they want to continue the relationship. Don’t assume that they just want to meet you and get to know you better.

Conclusion

Online dating has become more popular than ever before, but it can feel like a nerve-wracking experience if you’re new to the whole thing. It can be a bit overwhelming to meet new people, but it’s important to remember that there are plenty of people out there looking to meet someone new, just like you. When you meet someone online, remember that they might not be who they seem to be. And don’t be too picky. Be proactive with your online dating, come up with a conversation starter, and ask for a second date.
